Tom Arden, compliance fact-checker
Tom is a former AML analyst who now checks every claim published on this site against primary sources: the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, current ACMA guidance, state and territory regulator positions, and the operator's own terms.
What fact-checking means here
Tom reads each draft against the evidence behind it. Timing claims are checked against the raw transaction logs, licensing statements against the register they cite, and responsible gambling references against the current service details — phone numbers and program names change more often than people expect.
He verified the regulatory sections of our PayID casinos page and the credit-card and cash-advance claims on our Mastercard casinos page, including the explanation of why offshore operators sit outside BetStop's scope, and he re-checks the same claims on the homepage comparison each cycle.
- Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and ACMA enforcement activity
- State and territory regulator positions
- AML/CTF obligations and verification requirements
- Responsible gambling codes and support service accuracy
What gets rejected
Drafts come back when a claim cannot be traced to a source, when a payout figure rests on a single transaction, or when phrasing implies an operator is Australian-licensed when it is not. Language that markets anonymity, avoided verification or self-exclusion workarounds is never published, regardless of commercial value.
Where Tom writes rather than checks, Nadia Hollis reviews his work instead, so no page is ever signed off by its own author. The split is documented on our editorial team page.
